Superior UHMWPE rollers are a specialist option for applications where recurring shell abrasion limits roller life. The wear-resistant shell is intended for installations where longer shell life and fewer change-outs can justify the higher purchase price.

Compare shell wear, replacement intervals and change-out costs before specifying UHMWPE.

Severe shell abrasion
For abrasive ores, mineral fines and other materials that cause recurring shell wear. UHMWPE’s very long molecular chains give the material exceptional abrasion resistance and toughness.
Abrasion with moisture or build-up
The non-rusting shell and low-friction surface can be useful where wet abrasive fines contact the roller. Low surface adhesion can help limit build-up. Seals still need to suit the water and fines exposure.
Frequent, costly change-outs
Consider UHMWPE for problem positions where short shell life, difficult access or production interruptions make each replacement expensive. Compare the higher purchase price with measured wear and service history.
For recurring roller shell wear

HDPE suits many wet, corrosive or weight-sensitive applications. Choose UHMWPE where severe shell abrasion makes its greater wear resistance worth the additional cost.

Current roller life, wear pattern and whether shells, bearings or seals are failing first.
Load, speed and temperature
Confirm complete-roller ratings for load, roller length, belt speed and actual operating temperature.
Material and exposure
Identify the abrasive material, water and other fluid contact. Confirm the shell grade and seals suit these operating conditions.

Choosing the roller material

Steel
Strength, shell rigidity and value where corrosion is limited and steel already gives satisfactory service life.
HDPE
A practical polymer option where corrosion, handling weight, noise or belt protection are the main reasons to change.
UHMWPE
The specialist option where severe shell abrasion justifies a higher material cost and greater wear resistance.
